Top 6 Best Blender for Smoothies Reviews
If you already know enough about blenders and just want a quick look at the best of the bread, here is our Top 6!
When choosing the best blender for smoothies, there are a few models out there that consistently get good reviews from consumers who would like to use them especially for that purpose.
A few of those blenders are listed below.
1. Ninja Professional NJ600 Review
Our Rating: (4.4 / 5)
- Very powerful blender with great versatility.
- Excellent price point for the blender performance and accessories.
- The jar is very sturdy, and clean up is a breeze. It is even dishwasher safe and BPA free.
- Does not blend as well as expected. Even after a minute of blending, smoothies can still seem clumpy and there is some separation between the fruit and liquid.
- While the jar is very easy to clean, the blades are not. They are incredibly sharp and awkward to clean around.
- There have been some concerns with the pitcher leaking.
Product Highlights of the Ninja NJ600 Pro
What would a Ninja Professional NJ600 review be without an overview of the product features?
Complete with a 1000 watt motor, 3 speeds and pulse setting, 6-blade technology for thorough processing, large 72-ounce jar, and ergonomic handle, the Ninja Professional NJ600 is a powerful, sleek blender.
There are several qualities of the Ninja Professional NJ600 jar that set it apart from the competition.
First is its capacity – a whopping 72 ounces! As you would expect the jar is also free of Bisphenol A (BPA) and dishwasher ready, so no complains here.
The jar sturdily locks into the base and continues to hold steady, even during the peak of blending. However, some users have experienced jar leakage.
Motor and Speed Settings
When it comes to motor and speed capability, the Ninja Professional NJ600 can give many blenders of its caliber a run for the money.
With a 1000 watt professional grade motor, the Ninja NJ600 Pro can handle heavy duty blending and processing gracefully.
It has 3 different speed settings and a “pulse” feature for controlled blending.
It is capable of blending a pitcher full of ice into “snow” for snow cones.
Or fill it to the brim with frozen fruits and fresh veggies and watch the machine efficiently blend it all together.
This Ninja NJ600 Professional review finds blending to be the most variable quality of this machine.
It does not consistently deliver a quality product.
Sometimes smoothies will turn out lumpy and separated depending on which ingredients are used.
This could be due to the positioning of the blades being too far apart.
Sometimes the user will need to change between speeds/settings or use the pulse feature to get all of the pieces blended. It requires a bit of finesse.
Overall, because the Ninja Professional NJ600 is so powerful, it can still very capably handle many tasks.

2. Vitamix 5200 Review
Our Rating: (4.8 / 5)
- Powerful 2+ horsepower motor
- 64-ounce shatterproof BPA-free jar
- 10 variable speeds
- 7 year warranty
- Incredible ease of use
- Consistent quality and results with each use
- None as far as functionality. This machine is a dream. However, the nearly $500 price tag might be a turnoff to some buyers.
The Vitamix 5200 is the Cadillac of blenders. If you want to minimize time spent in the kitchen while maximizing the types of foods that can be made, pay close attention to this Vitamix 5200 review.
Product Highlights of the Vitamix 5200
The Vitamix 5200 is a top of the line blender. It goes far beyond what other brands and models could even begin to do.
Smoothies are consistently and beautifully blended; sauces and marinades are flavorful and smooth; peanut butter or almond butter can be swiftly made from scratch; and it’s powerful enough to boil liquid for homemade soup recipes. If you can dream it, the Vitamix 5200 can make it.
This marvelous blender comes with a 64oz jar, which really should be enough for all your blending needs.
Needles to say that it is also BPA free, shatterproof and dishwasher ready – but we really wouldn’t expect anything less from a blender in this price category.
Thanks to the polycarbonate build the jar is also more lightweight than a normal glas jar.
Motor and Speed Settings
With its 2+ horsepower motor and 10 variable speed settings, the Vitamix 5200 is powerful enough to tackle any task.
It smoothly and precisely crafts smoothies, nut butters, flour, soup, salsa, ice cream, mousse, bread dough, and so on.
The possibilities are seemingly endless with the Vitamix 5200. The sturdiness and stamina of the machine will have users falling in love from the very first use.
A Vitamix 5200 review would not be complete without a look at the machine’s blending results.
Chunky, lump smoothies will become a thing of the past once the Vitamix 5200 arrives on the kitchen scene.
Suddenly these concoctions will become luscious, smooth, and creamy with the flip of a switch. This machine even has the capability to turn nuts into nut milk or frozen fruits into decadent sorbet.
The blending capability is so fine on the Vitamix 5200 that it’s even possible to grind oats into flour or sugar into powdered sugar. Talk about versatility.

3. Blendtec Total Blender, FourSide Jar
Our Rating: (4.3 / 5)
- Very sturdy build
- Powerful motor with 1500 watt
- outstanding blending results
- Jar leakage after a few years (Blendtec offers an extended warranty though)
The Blendtec Total Blender TB-621-20 is the V8 Hemi of the blender world. Outfitted to pulverize just about any substance in less than 90 seconds, this impressive machine will have you sipping on the smooth liquid puree of your choosing in no time.
The device is also equipped with – what I can only describe as – a computer chip, and dozens of settings to ensure a thorough mix and consistent blend.
The following is my full Blendtec Blender Review:
Blendtec boasts an extremely light and durable jar material weighing in at 18.7 ounces including the blade.
What’s even more convenient about this jar is that the simple and flat shape of the inner walls makes it easy to extract thicker and stickier substances that may get stuck around the bottom near the blade.
The BPA-free WildSide jar is large and wide at the base in order to house the four-inch blades and increase blending efficiency.
A substantial amount of consumers complained of seal defects in the bottom of the jar after a couple years of heavy use, resulting in a black drippy discharge and eventual breakdown of the seal.
Blendtec has noted the defect and has reportedly extended the warranty on the $100 jars.
I especially like the fact that this jar is wider and therefore shorter than most blender jars, allowing it to fit nicely under low-hanging cabinets. The lid fits snugly.
Motor and Speed Settings
The massive 1,560-watt blender motor, with 3 HP direct-drive, has no shortage of power and can easily tear through ice, fleshy vegetables, frozen fruit, bread dough and just about anything else you can imagine.
The housing body is durable stainless steel and all blend cycles are pre-programmed into an easy to use touch screen. It truly doesn’t get much better than this: 5 out of 5 stars for motor and speed settings.
The beauty of this machine is that it seems to know what it is doing without you, as every blend comes out perfectly.
Perhaps it’s in the smart pre-determined cycles, or the efficiency and design of the blunt over-sized blades.
Whatever it is the product always comes out smooth. Included in the price of the blender is a Fresh Blends recipe book with more than 200 recipes. Blend scores 5 out of 5.

4. Breville BBL605XL Hemisphere Control Blender
Our Rating: (4 / 5)
- Heavy duty 750-watt motor with 5 speed settings and 3 specialty speed options
- Durable, high quality jar with dual rib design for smoother blending
- Permanent hemisphere blade and bowl system to keep continuous flow with less blockage
- LCD timer and bright display for ease of use
- Not as powerful as advertised or expected. Great for basic blending but texture of smoothies can still seem gritty instead of silky and well blended.
- Blades are connected to the jar and cannot be removed for cleaning. It takes a little extra work to remove debris from under the blades as well as reaching them to safely hand dry.
- Breville brand loyal users will have high expectations for this product, but its results don’t quite live up to the name or product promises. For this reason alone, it seems priced a bit too high.
This Breville Hemisphere Blender review will showcase the highlights and product specifications for this unique model.
The innovative hemisphere blades and jar are designed to keep food moving so debris doesn’t get caught in the bottom of the pitcher as it does with other models.
It has five speed functions, a bright LCD display, contoured stainless steel blades fixed to the inside, and a shatter-resistant 6-cup pitcher.
With a heavy duty 750-watt motor, the Breville Hemisphere Blender reviews as a powerful model with plenty of speed settings to offer.
This model has five speeds and 3 presets labeled pulse, ice crush, and smoothie for frequently used blender options.
For the power behind the blender, an overall better blending capability would be expected. (See more details below regarding blending.)
Additionally, some users have reported the Breville Hemisphere Blender motor has burned up within six months or less of use.
Of course, with Breville’s sterling customer service, the product can be quickly replaced, but expectations are high given this usual brand quality and price point.
The jar itself has several unique features as well.
The inside has dual ribs to keep food continuously rotating back to the blades and allow for better blending.
Also, the blades are attached to the bottom of the jar, which is great for assisting the hemisphere mixing technology, but it can make it challenging to thoroughly clean the blades.
However, the entire pitcher is dishwasher safe and BPA-free, so that can be helpful to get the last remnants of smoothie from the bottom.
The unique blending design of the Breville Hemisphere Blender aims to keep the jar’s contents continuously moving without getting larger bits stuck beneath the blades.
This should keep users from having to open the lid and manually move food around and resume blending.
The stainless steel blades are also touted to remain sharper for longer.
From some Breville Hemisphere Blender reviews, however, the sleek design and forward-thinking blade concept falls short of its promises.
It’s a strong blender, but it lacks the capability to crush seeded fruits and nuts. In turn, the smoothie quality isn’t quite as good as anticipated.
The Verdict of the Breville Hemisphere Blender Review
5. KitchenAid KSB560MC 5-Speed Blender
Our Rating: (4 / 5)
- Solid build
- Dishwasher safe
- Good blending result
- Jar leakage!!
- “slow start” feature not really effective
The KitchenAid 5 Speed Blender is a mid-priced blender which comes in multiple colors.
It’s .9 hp motor is powerful and handles every task with ease.
The blender itself is well build, with durable and very sharp stainless-steel blades which will chop through your frozen fruits like butter.
The KitchenAid 5-Speed blender could very well be your perfect blender but it comes with a major flaw – the jar.
The KitchenAid 5-Speed blender comes with a 56 oz. polycarbonate jar which is dishwasher safe and which provides enough room to hold 2 or more smoothies with ease.
Due to its polycarbonate build it is also shatter-safe and should be safe enough for kids to use.
In our test as well as in many user reviews the jar began to leak after a while, making the blending process a real mess.
While there has been an update to the jar, which has been redesigned from the ground up, user reviews still mention leakage even with the new jar.
Motor and Speed Settings
The KitchenAid 5-Speed blender comes with a .9 hp motor which equals 720 watt. Combined with the sharp stainless-steal blades that is a potent combination for all your blending needs.
The sturdy build of the motor and the base makes it a bit heavy.
Depending on your taste that can be good or bad but we rather liked the weight since it gives this blender a feeling of quality.
The 5 different speed settings will give you full control over the blending result.
The automatic “ice crush” setting does what it’s supposed to do with a respectable result. The “slow start” feature, which is mean to keep fruits and fluids at the bottom of the jar, didn’t really work as intended during our tests.
While everything got pushed up to the lid even on this setting, this isn’t really a problem if you keep your jar covered with the lid.
There is really not much to complain about if you leave aside the leakage of the jar which might spill your smoothies all over the place.
The KitchenAid 5-Speed blender has no problems with ice cubes, frozen fruits or most other challenging groceries. The resulting smoothies are smooth without chunks.
Verdict for the KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender
Like we said in our initial statement this KitchenAid blender could be the perfect choice due to its solid build, the acceptable price and the very good blending result.
If there wasn’t the problem with the jar which tends to leak for many customers.
While we have to say that there are many repots of very happy users, we can’t recommend the KitchenAid 5-Speed blender without any doubts.
If you find a KitchenAid with a working jar though, you will be very happy with this blender.[/su_note]
6. Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender
Our Rating: (3.9 / 5)
- Very low price
- Small and available in multiple colors
- Easy to use
- Low quality motor overheats easily
- Jar lid doesn’t close tight enough
- Frozen fruits and larger ice cubes can cause blades to get stuck
- Low durability
The Hamilton Beach Personal Blender 51101 is a small and very affordable blender.
It’s compact design and the variety of four different colors makes it ideal for small kitchens.
Due to it’s very low price point it obviously can’t be compared to larger, more expensive blenders like the VitaminX or Ninja blenders.
But it might be a good fit for you if you are just starting out using blenders and don’t have very high requirements on a blender.
The 14-oz. jar is big enough for one or two smoothies or shakes at a time but don’t expect to feed a whole family.
Cleaning is fairly easy since you can just put it in the dishwasher.
The jar is also BPA free. An often reported problem is that the travel lid doesn’t close tightly enough and it is easy to make a mess.
Motor and Speed Settings
Compared to more expensive models which offer wattages up to 1560 watt the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender offers only 175 watt which is still enough to blend most fruits and also smaller ice cubes.
Various users have reported problems with frozen fruits though which might be an issue for you if you want to use frozen fruits or larger ice cubes.
Due to the rather cheap build of the motor it tends to overheat very quickly according to user reports, making it useless for longer blending cycles. The overheating is sometimes accompanied by a smell of burnt oil which can be unpleasant.
While overheating can be an issue it can be easily controlled by the pulse control system which turns the blender on only while the pulse button is pressed. This gives you a very high level of control over the blending process.
If you use soft fruits or vegetables you will get an acceptable result most of the time with no or very little chunks.
Once you start using harder ingredients you might notice that blades get stuck or chucks remain in your smoothie.
Due to the small size of the jar it will also take longer to achieve a smooth result since remaining chunks are not efficiently transported to the blades.
Verdict for the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender
What is a Blender
A blender is a kitchen appliance that is typically used to blend or puree different foods together to a smooth consistency.
The center of a blender consists of tiny blades that whir at different speeds in order to blend various ingredients together.
There are several speeds that allow the blender to mix foods into different consistencies.
The faster the speed is, the finer the consistency of the finished product will be.
Blenders contain glass or plastic jars that hold items to be blended so that they can easily be poured and enjoyed afterwards.
Considerations when buying the best blender for smoothies
When it comes to blenders, each one will have different capabilities and features.
Each one will be better suited for different purposes than others will.
As a result, you should look for certain things when you are choosing the best blender for smoothies, and a few things to consider are:
- A motor that has at least 500 watts or more of power, as this will ensure that fruits and vegetables can be blended to a consistency that is ideal for drinking while also allowing you to crush ice easily.
- A wide and stable base in order to prevent the blender from walking when it is being used at full power.
- Jars that are the right size to accommodate the number of smoothies you will likely be making. If you only plan to make smoothies for yourself, you’ll need a much smaller blender than if you would like to make them for several people.
- Liquefy settings in the event you would like to make smoothies of a thinner consistency
You can also choose from a variety of optional features when it comes to finding the best blender for smoothies.
For example, you can choose between a glass or plastic jar, or a base with touch controls rather than push button ones.
This will largely be a matter of personal preference, so you may want to look at several different models in order to get a better idea as to which one you might like best.
Inexpensive blenders begin at around $60, and can cost up to several hundred dollars.
Those that are on the lower end of the price range tend to be okay for only occasional use, but are not intended to withstand a great deal of wear.
Blenders on the high end of the price scale are durable, but may not be worth the money unless you also plan to use them for other things on a regular basis.
Most people find that the best blender for smoothies is somewhere in the middle of the price scale, averaging between $80 and $120.
Other uses for a Blender
When deciding on the best blender for smoothies, you may want to take into consideration some of the other uses for this appliance. A few things that people often use their blenders for aside from making smoothies include:
- Frozen alcoholic beverages such as Margaritas
- Salad dressings
- Salsa and other dips
- Nut butter
- Mousses and puddings
Caring for a Blender
Caring for a blender is not difficult at all to do. All that is generally required is to take the jar, lid, and blade mechanism apart and then wash all of these pieces in hot soapy water.
Depending on the model, you may also be able to wash certain parts in the dishwasher.
You can simply wipe the outside of the blender down with a damp cloth from time to time in order to remove grime and residue.
Buying a blender can be a good investment, as there are a number of uses for one aside from making smoothies.
Be sure to research several brands, and then buy the best one for the money you have to spend.
In doing so, you will ensure you have a trustworthy appliance that will give you years of practical use whether you are using it for smoothies or a multitude of other purposes.
Now it is your choice! Good luck finding your best blender for smoothies!
