There is a lot of good information and quite a bit of bad information on the Internet, so here are some things that you should know before choosing a knife sharpener. Included will be the types of sharpeners; what sharpening and honing are; why sharpening is needed; when you should sharpen your knives; and how the type of knife may impact how it is sharpened.
Types of Knife Sharpeners
Knife sharpeners can really be categorized into three types: manual, electric, and whetstone.
Manual knife sharpeners are typically the cheapest and usually come in two or three stages.
